On The Hunt For The Best Onigiri
The ultimate specimen in Paris — It’s just a few bites, but it’s a thrill.
A ball of rice stuffed with something salty and wrapped in a sheet of nori seaweed… that’s the (very) basic definition of an onigiri — a kind of popular Japanese snack.
Put like that, it might not sound all that exciting. And sure, it isn’t — when it’s badly made. But when it’s done right — the rice cooked just so, the filling perfectly balanced, the seaweed high quality and maybe even still crisp… it’s delicious. Here’s my list of the ones I love — or would love to try. It’s not exhaustive, but it gives a pretty good idea of some of the best ones you can find in Paris.
